Brian is a legal visionary and pioneer, driving legal tech innovation with strategic thinking and entrepreneurial excellence.

Brian Liu revolutionized the legal landscape as the Founder and former CEO and Chairman of LegalZoom. At L&F Brown, Brian continues his mission to democratize the law and to bring innovation to the legal sector by serving as a key advisor to Legal Tech and Startup clients on business and legal matters.

With minimal outside investment, Brian founded LegalZoom in 1999 and built the company into the most recognized brand name in law. At the time, Brian saw the potential for the internet to make common yet important legal documents accessible and affordable. He served as CEO of LegalZoom from inception until 2007, and then as Chairman of the Board until 2018. His vision, product ideation and brand strategies allowed LegalZoom to thrive. Under his leadership, the company raised over $500 million and is now publicly traded on the Nasdaq.

In addition to helping Legal Tech startups, Brian serves on the advisory panel for Lawtech UK, a public-private partnership dedicated to increasing access to justice through technology. He is also actively involved in startups outside of law, serving on the Board of Da Zen Theranostics, an oncology platform in clinical trials. Brian also manages two real estate investment funds.

Brian started his legal career at the prestigious law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell before going in-house to Oaktree Capital Management, and then founding LegalZoom. He earned his law degree from UCLA and continues to drive innovation and investment in the Los Angeles startup ecosystem.
