UCLA Law Trained Injury Lawyers in Encino

If you were hurt in Encino, there is someone at the insurance company who already knows your name, your policy number, and the details of the incident report. Their job is to close your file for as little as possible. If they reach out with an offer this week, that is not generosity. It means they think your case is worth more than what they are putting on the table.

Encino sits at the convergence of the 101 and the 405, one of the most crash-prone interchanges in Los Angeles, and stretches along Ventura Boulevard where pedestrian accidents are a weekly occurrence. The priority right now is locking down the evidence that will make or break your case: the Caltrans traffic camera footage, the dashcam from the rideshare driver behind you, the ER records that need to document every complaint, not just the obvious ones.

A local attorney, not a remote firm

Knows Encino: Ventura Blvd, the 101/405, the Van Nuys Courthouse

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, graduated from El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills, and attended UCLA Law School. I know Encino well. I've spent many hours on Ventura Blvd, many breakfasts at Coral Tree Cafe, and many dinners at what is probably the best Italian spot hidden on the second floor of a strip mall near the Land Rover dealership, Gio Cucina. I know the Ventura Boulevard corridor, the Balboa area, and how insurance companies respond to claims in this part of LA.

The 101/405 interchange

The convergence of US-101 and I-405 near Encino is one of the most congested and crash-prone freeway interchanges in Los Angeles. High-speed merging, lane changes, and stop-and-go conditions create constant collision risk.

Where you go after a serious crash

Paramedics route to Northridge Hospital (Level II Trauma). Encino Hospital Medical Center is on Ventura Boulevard but is not a trauma center. Critical cases go to UCLA Ronald Reagan (Level I).

Local courts & judges

Encino injury cases typically file at Van Nuys Courthouse West. We know the dockets, the judges, and how local juries respond to personal injury cases from this part of the Valley.

Balboa Park & Lake Balboa

One of the largest parks in the Valley, with heavy recreational use by cyclists, pedestrians, and joggers. Parking lot incidents and pedestrian collisions near the park are well-documented.

Before you call anyone

Most Firms Will Take Your Case.
Few Will Actually Fight For It.

From the moment a claim is filed, the other side is building a case against yours. Adjusters document inconsistencies, make early offers designed to be accepted, and count on injured people to take less than they deserve. Most personal injury firms respond by loading up their docket: you get assigned to a paralegal, your calls go unanswered, and your case settles fast because the firm needs to move on.

We built L&F Brown differently.

  • You talk to a founding partner. Not intake staff, not a junior associate. A UCLA Law-trained senior attorney who handles your case personally from first call to resolution.
  • We limit our caseload on purpose. More cases means less attention. We take fewer so every client gets the time and resources their case actually requires.
  • We don't settle until the number is right. Insurance companies know which firms fold early. We're not one of them, and they know it.

Evidence fades. Deadlines are real. The sooner you have an attorney building your case, the better your position. This is our personal commitment to every client we take on.

What Makes an Encino Injury Case Different

The 101/405 interchange is one of the most congested and dangerous freeway junctions in the country. Multi-vehicle crashes here almost always involve more than one at-fault party and more than one insurance policy. If you only pursue the driver who hit you, you are probably leaving money on the table. Finding every policy takes legwork, and it needs to start immediately.

Ventura Boulevard through Encino has medical offices, restaurants, and retail packed into a dense commercial strip. Pedestrian accidents, parking lot fender-benders that turn into real injury claims, and premises incidents at commercial properties are all part of the caseload here.

If you were bitten by a dog at Balboa Park, California law is clear: the owner is liable, full stop. Civil Code 3342 is a strict liability statute. The fight is not about whether the owner pays. It is about making sure the insurance company covers the full cost: the ER, the plastic surgeon, the time off work, the scar.

Defendants in Encino are more likely to carry umbrella policies well above their primary limits. We know that going in, and it changes how we build the demand. Cases file at Van Nuys Courthouse.

Dangerous corridors

Encino Roads Where Crashes Happen

Local road patterns determine what evidence we seek, which defendants we name, and how we frame fault. These are the corridors in Encino where crashes concentrate.

  • high
    US-101 / I-405 interchange

One of the most dangerous freeway confluences in LA. High-speed merging, weaving traffic, and chronic congestion create conditions for serious multi-vehicle crashes.

  • high
    Ventura Blvd (Encino section)

Dense commercial strip with heavy pedestrian activity, frequent driveway cuts, and bus stops. Rear-end, pedestrian, and door-zone crashes are regularly reported.

  • high
    Balboa Boulevard (near 101)

Major north-south corridor with high traffic volume. The on-ramp to US-101 creates congestion and aggressive merging behavior, especially during commute hours.

  • moderate
    Sepulveda Boulevard

Runs parallel to I-405 through Encino. Heavy truck and commuter traffic with frequent intersection conflicts at cross streets.

  • moderate
    Hayvenhurst Avenue & Ventura Blvd

High-volume intersection near residential and commercial areas. T-bone and rear-end collisions are common during peak hours.

The Collision Patterns We See From Encino

The 101/405 interchange generates a disproportionate share of the serious cases we handle from Encino. High-speed merging, sudden stops, and aggressive lane changes produce multi-car pileups where figuring out who hit whom requires the CHP report, dashcam footage, and sometimes an accident reconstructionist.

Ventura Boulevard is the pedestrian and premises corridor. Balboa Boulevard gets the park-adjacent cyclist and dog bite cases. Sepulveda and Hayvenhurst carry the residential and school zone traffic that produces lower-speed but still serious injuries, especially during morning drop-off.

A recent Encino case involved three vehicles on the 405 where each driver's insurance company blamed the other two. Another was a pedestrian struck in a crosswalk on Ventura by a driver making a right on red. A third was a dog attack at Balboa Park where the owner's homeowner policy initially denied the claim. Each required a completely different approach.

What you can recover

Compensation Available in Your Case

There are more categories of compensation available than most people realize. The insurance company will not volunteer this information. Here is what you are entitled to pursue.

Medical Expenses

ER treatment at Encino Hospital Medical Center, surgery, rehab, prescriptions, and the long-term care costs your doctors project going forward.

Lost Wages

Lost income from every missed workday during recovery. This includes salary, hourly wages, freelance contracts, and overtime you would have earned.

Lost Earning Capacity

If you can't return to the same job or earn at the same level because of your injuries, that future loss is part of your claim.

Pain & Suffering

Physical pain and emotional distress are real damages. They're often the single largest category in a settlement, and they require proper documentation to maximize.

Property Damage

The full cost to repair or replace your vehicle and any personal property. We don't let the insurance company dictate what your car is worth.

Punitive Damages

Available when the defendant's behavior was egregious. Think DUI, texting at highway speed, or fleeing the scene. These are meant to punish, not just compensate.

Loss of Enjoyment of Life

When an injury takes away the things that made your daily life worth living, from golf to gardening to just picking up your kids, that loss is compensable.

Loss of Consortium

Your spouse or domestic partner can bring their own claim for the toll your injury has taken on your relationship, your home life, and your companionship.

What Injury Victims Need to Know

Do I really need an attorney, or can I handle this myself?
You can negotiate directly with an insurance company, but studies consistently show that represented claimants recover significantly more, even after attorney fees. Insurers have adjusters and lawyers whose job is to minimize your payout. An attorney levels that playing field, documents your damages properly, and knows what your case is actually worth. We've handled cases for Encino residents and know how adjusters respond to claims at the 101/405 interchange and along the Ventura Boulevard corridor. The consultation is free and there's no fee unless we win.
What is the statute of limitations for a personal injury claim in California?
Under CCP § 335.1, you generally have 2 years from the date of injury to file a lawsuit. If a government entity was involved, you must file a Government Claims Act notice within 6 months. Encino cases typically file at Van Nuys Courthouse West. Acting quickly also helps preserve evidence, especially for high-speed freeway crashes at the 101/405 interchange where physical evidence degrades fast.
What if I was partly at fault for the accident?
California follows pure comparative negligence (Li v. Yellow Cab Co., 1975). Even if you were partially at fault, you can still recover damages reduced by your percentage of fault. For example, if you were involved in a crash at the 101/405 interchange or on Ventura Boulevard and were also cited for a lane change, that doesn't eliminate your right to recover; it may just reduce it. Insurance companies routinely try to inflate your fault percentage. Having an attorney prevents this.
What damages can I recover?
You may be entitled to: medical expenses (past and future), lost wages and lost earning capacity, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and property damage. In cases involving egregious conduct, punitive damages may also be available.
Do I need to go to court?
Most personal injury cases settle before trial. However, we prepare every case as if it will go to trial, which consistently produces stronger settlements. If a fair offer isn't made, we are fully prepared to take your case to trial at Van Nuys Courthouse West.
