UCLA Law Trained Attorneys in Agoura Hills
Most people do not know that Uber and Lyft coverage changes dramatically depending on whether the driver has a passenger in the car, is heading to pick someone up, or is just driving around with the app running. In Agoura Hills, where rideshare drivers often cruise Kanan Road and the 101 corridor waiting for pings, many crashes happen during that in-between period when coverage is at its lowest. The companies designed the system this way on purpose.
Curt handles rideshare cases for Agoura Hills clients and files at Chatsworth Courthouse. He subpoenas trip data early and does not accept the driver's word about whether the app was on. The data tells the real story.
Knows the 101/Kanan Corridor
I grew up in Thousand Oaks, just east of Agoura Hills along the 101 corridor. I know the Kanan Road interchange, the Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon connection to the south, and the way this stretch of the 101 behaves at rush hour. Wood Ranch off Kanan is always a staple, and Ladyface Brewing was one of my favorite lunch spots before it sadly closed. I've represented injured residents across the Conejo Valley and adjacent communities throughout my career.

The County Line Problem and Other Local Details
Agoura Hills is LA County. Its neighbors are Ventura County. That one fact changes your courthouse, your jury pool, and your case strategy. Here is the full picture: roads, hospitals, laws, and deadlines.

The Kanan Road interchange on US-101 is one of the most collision-prone spots on this stretch of the freeway. High-speed merging, weaving traffic from Malibu Canyon-bound commuters, and limited deceleration distance create consistent crash patterns.
Northridge Hospital (Level II Trauma) east on the 101, or Los Robles Regional (Level II) in Thousand Oaks. Agoura Hills is LA County, but Los Robles may be closer for west-side crashes. Critical cases go to UCLA Ronald Reagan (Level I).
Coverage depends on the driver's app status: (1) App off — driver's personal insurance only; (2) App on, no ride accepted — $50k/$100k/$25k from TNC; (3) Ride accepted or passenger in vehicle — $1 million commercial policy. Identifying the correct tier is the first critical issue in every rideshare case.
Uber and Lyft classify drivers as independent contractors to avoid direct liability. California's AB 5 and Proposition 22 created ongoing uncertainty about this classification. We evaluate all liability theories — including direct negligence by the TNC for negligent driver onboarding — in every case.

Few Will Actually Fight For It.
From the moment a claim is filed, the other side is building a case against yours. Adjusters document inconsistencies, make early offers designed to be accepted, and count on injured people to take less than they deserve. Most personal injury firms respond by loading up their docket: you get assigned to a paralegal, your calls go unanswered, and your case settles fast because the firm needs to move on.
We built L&F Brown differently.
- You talk to a founding partner. Not intake staff, not a junior associate. A UCLA Law-trained senior attorney who handles your case personally from first call to resolution.
- We limit our caseload on purpose. More cases means less attention. We take fewer so every client gets the time and resources their case actually requires.
- We don't settle until the number is right. Insurance companies know which firms fold early. We're not one of them, and they know it.

Evidence fades. Deadlines are real. The sooner you have an attorney building your case, the better your position. This is our personal commitment to every client we take on.
What Shapes an Injury Case Here
Despite its Conejo Valley identity, Agoura Hills is LA County. Cases file at Chatsworth Courthouse. That is the same courthouse as Woodland Hills and Calabasas, not the East County Courthouse in Ventura County where Thousand Oaks cases go. Getting this right at the outset matters for jury selection, venue strategy, and procedural deadlines.
Kanan Road to Malibu has blind curves, steep drops, and a documented history of serious crashes. When the road itself is a factor, whether it is poor signage, missing guardrails, or inadequate maintenance, Caltrans or LA County can be named as defendants. Government claims have a six-month notice deadline.
Weekend recreational traffic changes the crash dynamics on Kanan Road. Malibu-bound drivers who have never been on the road before take curves too fast and cross center lines. These out-of-area drivers create different negligence arguments than a local commuter crash.
The Agoura Road commercial strip has restaurants, retail, and services where the landlords and chain tenants carry real insurance but also fight every claim. Their adjusters know what they are doing.
Where the Crashes Happen
Local road patterns determine what evidence we seek, which defendants we name, and how we frame fault. These are the corridors in Agoura Hills where crashes concentrate.
- highUS-101 (Kanan Road interchange)
One of the most dangerous interchanges on the 101 in the Conejo corridor. Merging conflicts, high-speed weaving, and Malibu-bound traffic create conditions for serious multi-vehicle crashes.
- highKanan Road
Major north-south arterial connecting US-101 to Kanan-Dume Road and Malibu. High speed, sharp curves south of the freeway, and mixed recreational/commuter use make this a high-risk corridor.
- highLas Virgenes Road (Agoura Hills section)
Mountain road connecting Agoura Hills to Malibu. Narrow lanes, curves, and high-speed traffic make this one of the more dangerous roads in the area for all road users.
- moderateAgoura Road
Principal commercial arterial through Agoura Hills. High traffic volume near shopping centers and restaurants with frequent driveway and intersection conflicts.
- moderateCornell Road
Residential and park-access road with recreational pedestrian and cyclist traffic. Limited sight lines and speed differential with through traffic create collision risk.
Where the Crashes Happen
The Kanan Road interchange on the 101 is one of the worst spots on this stretch of the freeway. Drivers accelerating toward Malibu merge into commuter traffic that is already backed up. The deceleration distance is too short, and the result is a predictable pattern of rear-end and sideswipe collisions.
Kanan Road south of the freeway is the mountain road danger zone, particularly on weekends. Agoura Road is the commercial corridor with its own set of pedestrian and intersection incidents. Las Virgenes Road connects to Malibu Canyon and carries its own serious crash history. Cornell Road is quieter but still sees residential and cyclist collisions.
A recent Agoura Hills case involved a motorcyclist hit on Kanan by a weekend driver who crossed the center line. Another was a pedestrian struck at an unmarked crosswalk on Agoura Road where the city had denied a crosswalk request two years earlier. That denial became evidence in the case. Different facts, different defendants, different strategies.
Cases We Handle
Rideshare accidents in Agoura Hills involve everything from highway crashes on the 101 to collisions on Kanan Road during pickups. The specific circumstances, especially the driver's app status, determine which insurance policy responds.
Passenger Injured in Rideshare Vehicle
The $1M commercial policy applies when a driver had an accepted ride or passenger in the vehicle.
Struck by Rideshare Driver
Pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers hit by an Uber or Lyft driver — coverage depends on app status.
Driver Injured During Rideshare Work
Rideshare drivers injured while logged into the app may have claims under the TNC's commercial policy.
Rideshare Assault Claims
Passengers assaulted by rideshare drivers — Uber and Lyft's negligent background screening is a significant liability theory.
Accidents During Pickup/Drop-Off
Collisions occurring at rideshare stops — when the app was active with a pending ride, the commercial policy applies.
Compensation Available in Your Case
Your medical bills and lost wages are the same whether the driver was on the clock or not. The difference is which insurer pays. We identify the correct coverage tier and build a claim that reflects the full extent of your losses.
Medical Expenses
Emergency care, diagnostic imaging, and ongoing treatment. Rideshare crashes on Kanan Road or the 101 through Agoura Hills produce injuries that need proper medical follow-through, not just an ER visit.
Lost Wages
Compensation for every day you could not work. The insurance tier dispute between Uber or Lyft and the driver's personal insurer should not come out of your paycheck.
Pain & Suffering
The physical pain and daily disruption caused by a rideshare crash. Whether you were the passenger or another driver, the company behind the app bears responsibility.
Property Damage
Damage to your vehicle caused by a rideshare driver. We determine the correct insurance policy and pursue the right company for repair or replacement costs.
Future Medical Costs
Not every injury resolves in the first few months. Ongoing physical therapy, injections, or surgical consultations for rideshare crash injuries are part of your full demand.
Punitive Damages
If the rideshare company's driver screening process failed and a preventable crash resulted, punitive damages are a tool to hold them accountable beyond standard compensation.
What to Do After a Rideshare Accident
Rideshare accident claims involve insurance complexity that standard car accident cases do not. These steps protect your claim from the outset.
Screenshot the rideshare app
Get the trip screen captured: driver info, route, and app status. In Agoura Hills, the insurance fight starts with whether the $1 million commercial policy or the driver's minimal personal coverage applies.
Call 911
Police response and a formal report are essential. Agoura Hills crashes may involve CHP or local police depending on location, and you need that report regardless.
Photograph everything
Vehicle damage, the Uber or Lyft placard, road conditions, and injuries. On Kanan Road or Agoura Road, photograph the conditions that contributed to the crash.
Get the driver's personal insurance in addition to rideshare information
The driver's personal policy is the only recovery source if the app was off. Get the insurance card and note the carrier, even if the driver says Uber or Lyft covers it.
Do not give a recorded statement to the TNC's insurer
They want your words on record while you are still hurt and confused. That is by design. Your attorney should be the one talking to their adjuster.

Not only was Arya easy to communicate with, incredibly intelligent with how he planned to achieve the goals, but he was also very warm and caring. I really enjoyed working with Arya. Warm, ethical, and intelligent is a great combo!
I cannot recommend L&F Brown highly enough. From the start of my case they were professional, talked me through the process and genuinely cared about my situation and concerns. My case went far longer than any of us expected, and I was ready to just accept the first settlement, but Arya and Curt fought to get me what I was entitled to. All in all, they went above and beyond at every step and I felt supported throughout my experience with them.
My husband was involved in a car accident back in February, and now that everything has been resolved, I just wanted to say how grateful we are for this amazing team. Everyone was incredibly kind, organized, and easy to communicate with. They always kept us updated, answered every question we had, and made sure we understood what was happening every step of the way. Having someone we could trust took so much stress off our shoulders during an already difficult time.
