UCLA Law Trained Attorneys in Sherman Oaks

You were discharged from the ER with a clean CT scan and instructions to rest. Three weeks later, you are struggling at work, snapping at your family, and losing words mid-sentence. The ER did exactly what it was supposed to: rule out bleeding and fractures. But it was never designed to detect the kind of microscopic nerve damage that causes persistent post-concussion symptoms. That gap between what the ER found and what you are experiencing is where insurance companies make their money.

Arya handles brain injury cases for Sherman Oaks clients and closes that gap with neuropsychological testing and expert testimony. He has presented TBI evidence at Van Nuys Courthouse West and knows how to make a jury understand an injury they cannot see on a scan.

UCLA-Trained Attorneys, Not a Call Center

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, graduated from El Camino Real High School and UCLA Law School, and I've spent my career representing people who were hurt because someone else wasn't paying attention. I take these cases personally because I've watched families in this community deal with the aftermath of serious crashes. If you were injured, I want to hear what happened.

What Makes Your Case Different From Day One

The dangerous corridors, the trauma routing, the legal framework, and the deadlines that apply. Sherman Oaks has one of the highest injury collision rates in the Valley. Here is what that means for your case.

TBI is frequently underdiagnosed and disputed

Insurance companies routinely challenge mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) claims, citing the absence of visible structural damage on standard MRI. Functional MRI, neuropsychological testing, and expert testimony can document real cognitive and behavioral impairment even when conventional imaging appears normal.

Future damages are the biggest issue in TBI cases

The long-term economic impact of a brain injury — reduced earning capacity, ongoing care, future surgeries, and lifetime disability — often dwarfs the initial medical costs. Building this record requires life care planners, vocational experts, and neurological specialists working together.

Before you call anyone

Most Firms Will Take Your Case.
Few Will Actually Fight For It.

From the moment a claim is filed, the other side is building a case against yours. Adjusters document inconsistencies, make early offers designed to be accepted, and count on injured people to take less than they deserve. Most personal injury firms respond by loading up their docket: you get assigned to a paralegal, your calls go unanswered, and your case settles fast because the firm needs to move on.

We built L&F Brown differently.

  • You talk to a founding partner. Not intake staff, not a junior associate. A UCLA-trained attorney who handles your case personally from first call to resolution.
  • We limit our caseload on purpose. More cases means less attention. We take fewer so every client gets the time and resources their case actually requires.
  • We don't settle until the number is right. Insurance companies know which firms fold early. We're not one of them, and they know it.

Evidence fades. Deadlines are real. The sooner you have an attorney building your case, the better your position. This is our personal commitment to every client we take on.

What We Know About Sherman Oaks That Affects Your Case

  • Westfield Fashion Square:Corporate-owned regional mall with a professional liability team. Slip & fall and parking structure incidents here are routinely contested, and prior incident history at the property is critical evidence we request early.
  • US-101 / I-405 interchange:One of the most congested freeway intersections in the country. Rear-end and lane-change crashes are frequent; fault in multi-vehicle incidents requires fast evidence preservation before footage disappears.
  • Van Nuys Courthouse:Cases file at the Van Nuys Courthouse of LA County Superior Court. We know the local judges and how Sherman Oaks-area juries evaluate damages.
  • Dense apartment stock:Sherman Oaks has substantial multi-unit residential development. Premises liability against property management companies is a recurring case type. These defendants operate very differently from individual homeowners.
  • Sepulveda Blvd medical corridor:Multiple medical practices and outpatient facilities. We know which specialists produce injury documentation that holds up under cross-examination from insurance defense counsel.

Major Accidents in the Area

The 101/405 interchange and Ventura Boulevard create some of the worst traffic congestion in the Valley, with peak-hour gridlock a daily reality for Sherman Oaks residents. These conditions create dangerous merging zones and congested areas.

City surface streets like Ventura Boulevard, Van Nuys Boulevard, Sepulveda Boulevard, Riverside Drive are hotspots for T-bone collisions, rear-end crashes, and pedestrian strikes, especially during rush hours and school drop-off/pick-up times.

We've helped victims injured in:

  • Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) accidents near Westfield Fashion Square.
  • Delivery vehicle collisions in residential zones like Chandler Estates, Magnolia Woods and Sherman Oaks Hills.
  • School zone crashes near Sherman Oaks Elementary Charter and Notre Dame High School.
  • Pedestrian accidents near Ventura Boulevard Corridor and Westfield Fashion Square.
  • Dog Bites in the Sherman Oaks Hills and Van Nuys adjacent neighborhoods.
We handle every case type separately

What you can recover

Compensation Available in Your Case

The cost of a brain injury extends far beyond the initial hospital visit. Compensation must account for neuropsychological treatment, lost professional capacity, lifestyle modifications, and the invisible burden of living with a brain that no longer works the way it should.

Medical Expenses

Sherman Oaks Hospital, neurological evaluations, functional MRI, and rehabilitation programs. Brain injury treatment is not a single bill. It is a series of specialist visits that can continue for years.

Lost Wages & Earning Capacity

A brain injury may cost you your current job and limit what jobs you can hold in the future. We work with vocational experts to calculate the full economic impact on your career.

Pain & Suffering

The relentless headaches, light sensitivity, and emotional volatility that come with TBI. These symptoms reshape your daily life, and the compensation should reflect that reality.

Future Medical Care

TBI recovery is not linear. You may need cognitive therapy for years, medication adjustments, and neurological check-ups that cost thousands annually. A life care plan captures all of it.

Loss of Enjoyment of Life

Sherman Oaks is a social, active community. When a brain injury takes away your ability to participate in the life you built here, that loss has real economic and non-economic value.

Caregiver Costs

If your TBI requires help with daily tasks, transportation, or medical appointments, the person providing that care deserves compensation. We include caregiver costs in every severe TBI demand.

How we help

What to Do After a Traumatic Brain Injury

Brain injury claims are won or lost on the medical record. These steps protect your health and build the documentation your case requires.

1

Seek emergency neurological evaluation

After any crash on the 405, 101, or 170 through Sherman Oaks, get a neurological evaluation. The force of a freeway-speed collision can cause brain injury even without a direct blow to the head.

2

Follow up with a neurologist

The ER checks for emergencies. A neurologist checks for everything else. Neuropsychological testing after the acute phase reveals the cognitive deficits that define the long-term impact.

3

Keep a symptom journal

Track your symptoms daily: headaches, memory issues, irritability, trouble sleeping. This journal is evidence your attorney uses to demonstrate the real-world consequences of your TBI.

4

Preserve all evidence from the incident

Police reports, dashcam footage, and photographs from the crash scene. Ventura Boulevard and Van Nuys Boulevard in Sherman Oaks have heavy camera coverage that may capture the incident.

5

Contact L&F Brown

Arya handles brain injury cases for Sherman Oaks clients and files at Van Nuys Courthouse West. He retains neurological experts early to build the documentation that insurance companies cannot ignore.

What Injury Victims Need to Know

The MRI was normal — does that mean I don't have a brain injury?
No. Standard MRI does not detect many forms of mild-to-moderate traumatic brain injury. Functional MRI (fMRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and neuropsychological testing can document real brain injury even when conventional imaging appears normal. Insurance companies use normal MRI results to dispute TBI claims — we counter with expert neurological testimony and the appropriate imaging tools.
How is the value of a brain injury claim determined?
TBI claims are valued based on: (1) past and future medical expenses (established by expert testimony and life care planning); (2) lost wages and reduced earning capacity (vocational and economic experts); (3) pain and suffering; and (4) loss of enjoyment of life. The future damages in a TBI case often far exceed the initial treatment costs, which is why expert engagement early in the case is so important.
Can I file a brain injury claim if my symptoms didn't appear immediately?
Yes. It is common for TBI symptoms — cognitive changes, personality shifts, depression, chronic headaches — to emerge or worsen days or weeks after the initial injury. California's discovery rule and the 2-year statute of limitations run from the date of injury, not the date symptoms appeared. Document your symptoms consistently and seek specialist evaluation as soon as possible.
Where can I find a brain injury specialist near Sherman Oaks?
Brain injury treatment in the Sherman Oaks area is available at several regional medical centers. We work with neurologists and neuropsychological testing specialists throughout the greater Los Angeles and Ventura County region to document TBI for clients from Sherman Oaks. Getting a specialist evaluation — not just an emergency room discharge — is critical to building the medical record your claim requires.
