UCLA Law Trained Attorneys in Studio City

Studio City's nightlife means impaired drivers on the road after midnight on a regular basis. When one of those drivers causes your accident, the question is not just what the driver did. It is where they were drinking, how much they were served, and whether the establishment should have cut them off. That second question can double or triple the available insurance in your case.

Arya builds Studio City DUI cases by investigating both the driver and the source. He obtains the driver's BAC and criminal history for the punitive damages claim, and he traces their evening through credit card records and bar surveillance to identify potential dram shop defendants. These cases file at Van Nuys Courthouse West, where Arya has presented DUI injury cases to juries who take impaired driving seriously.

A local attorney, not a remote firm

An Attorney Who Knows Studio City Firsthand

I previously lived in Studio City and know this neighborhood, the Ventura Boulevard dining strip, Cahuenga Pass, Coldwater Canyon, from years of daily life here. I've spent many nights on the patio at Black Liquor Market and Firefly, and watched Ventura evolve into what it is today, especially the stretch near Laurel Tavern. I earned my law degree at UCLA and now practice as a founding partner at L&F Brown.

The Road, Medical, and Legal Details That Matter Here

Canyon traffic, studio production schedules, the trauma hospitals that serve this area, and the California laws that govern your claim. This is the working knowledge behind every Studio City case we take.

Cahuenga Pass & US-101

The US-101 through Cahuenga Pass is a critical connection between the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood. Steep grades, limited shoulders, and high speeds make this corridor a consistent source of serious injury crashes.

Where you go after a serious crash

Paramedics route to Providence Holy Cross (Level II Trauma, Mission Hills) or Northridge Hospital (Level II). Critical cases go to UCLA Ronald Reagan or Cedars-Sinai (both Level I, over the hill).

Punitive damages in DUI cases

California courts have repeatedly held that driving under the influence can constitute "malice" or "conscious disregard for the rights and safety of others" — the standard for punitive damages under Civil Code §3294. This can significantly increase your total recovery beyond compensatory damages alone.

Dram shop liability — bars and restaurants can be sued

California's dram shop law (Business and Professions Code §25602) limits social host liability but allows claims against commercial establishments that serve visibly intoxicated customers who later cause accidents. If a bar or restaurant over-served the driver, they may share liability.

Before you call anyone

Most Firms Will Take Your Case.
Few Will Actually Fight For It.

From the moment a claim is filed, the other side is building a case against yours. Adjusters document inconsistencies, make early offers designed to be accepted, and count on injured people to take less than they deserve. Most personal injury firms respond by loading up their docket: you get assigned to a paralegal, your calls go unanswered, and your case settles fast because the firm needs to move on.

We built L&F Brown differently.

  • You talk to a founding partner. Not intake staff, not a junior associate. A UCLA Law-trained senior attorney who handles your case personally from first call to resolution.
  • We limit our caseload on purpose. More cases means less attention. We take fewer so every client gets the time and resources their case actually requires.
  • We don't settle until the number is right. Insurance companies know which firms fold early. We're not one of them, and they know it.

Evidence fades. Deadlines are real. The sooner you have an attorney building your case, the better your position. This is our personal commitment to every client we take on.

What Makes Your Injury Case Different

CBS Studio Center and the entertainment industry put commercial vehicles on local streets that would not normally see them: grip trucks on Radford, equipment vans blocking sight lines on Colfax, production base camps taking over residential parking. When a production vehicle is involved in a crash, the production company's commercial insurance policy is in play, and those policies are typically much larger than a personal auto policy. But they are also defended aggressively.

Crashes on Coldwater Canyon and Laurel Canyon involve mountain road conditions: limited sight lines, steep grades, no room to pull over. When the road itself contributes to the crash, Caltrans or the City of LA can be named as defendants. Government tort claims have a strict notice deadline.

Ventura Boulevard through Studio City combines restaurant and nightlife traffic with high pedestrian density and valet zones. Premises cases against entertainment venues and commercial landlords are a regular part of our caseload here.

Cases from Studio City may file at Van Nuys Courthouse or Stanley Mosk downtown, depending on the facts. We know both venues and how to choose the one that gives your case the best position.

Dangerous corridors

Where the Crashes Happen

Local road patterns determine what evidence we seek, which defendants we name, and how we frame fault. These are the corridors in Studio City where crashes concentrate.

  • high
    US-101 through Cahuenga Pass

Steep grades, curves, and high speeds through the mountain pass. Limited shoulder space and frequent lane changes create serious crash risk, particularly for motorcyclists and in wet weather.

  • high
    Ventura Blvd (Studio City section)

Dense restaurant and entertainment corridor with heavy pedestrian activity. Rear-end collisions, dooring incidents for cyclists, and crosswalk violations are consistently reported.

  • high
    Coldwater Canyon Avenue

Steep, winding mountain road connecting Studio City to Beverly Hills. Grade issues, blind curves, and cyclists sharing the road create frequent serious collisions.

  • moderate
    Cahuenga Boulevard

Primary surface street through Cahuenga Pass. Heavy commuter use and frequent pedestrian activity near the NoHo Arts District create collision risk.

  • moderate
    Laurel Canyon Boulevard

Popular but hazardous mountain road between Studio City and West Hollywood. Narrow lanes, steep grades, and blind corners are involved in many serious injury crashes.

The Cases That Come Out of Here

The US-101 through Cahuenga Pass is steep, fast, and unforgiving. Limited shoulders mean there is nowhere to go when someone rear-ends you at 65 mph. This corridor produces some of the most serious freeway injury cases we see from the Valley side.

Coldwater Canyon and Laurel Canyon are the mountain road crashes: head-ons from drivers crossing the center line, single-vehicle rollovers, cyclists hit by cars that did not see them around a curve. Ventura Boulevard is the pedestrian and premises corridor. Tujunga Village gets the mix of foot traffic and commercial delivery vehicles in a narrow street grid that was not designed for either.

A recent Studio City case involved a grip truck from a production that sideswiped a parked car with a passenger inside. Another was a head-on collision on Laurel Canyon where the road had no center barrier. A third was a late-night pedestrian strike outside a restaurant on Ventura where the venue's outdoor seating had reduced sidewalk width to almost nothing. Each one required us to identify defendants that a less experienced firm would have missed.

We handle every case type separately

What you can recover

Compensation Available in Your Case

DUI victims deserve more than what a standard injury case pays. Punitive damages exist specifically for situations where someone chose to endanger others. We build the record that justifies them.

Medical Expenses

Emergency care, surgery, and rehabilitation from a Studio City DUI crash. Impaired drivers don't react or brake, which means the injuries tend to be more severe.

Lost Wages

Time out of work because of someone else's choice to drink and drive. We document the full income impact of your injuries.

Pain & Suffering

Physical pain, emotional distress, and the particular anguish of a completely preventable crash. Many DUI victims develop lasting anxiety about driving.

Property Damage

Your vehicle and belongings destroyed in the crash. Studio City DUI collisions near the bar and restaurant strip on Ventura Blvd can be high-impact.

Punitive Damages

Studio City's nightlife scene makes DUI crashes a recurring problem. California courts award punitive damages to punish the conscious disregard shown by driving drunk.

Wrongful Death Damages

If a drunk driver caused a fatal crash in Studio City, the victim's family can pursue full compensatory damages plus punitive damages.

How we help

What to Do After a Drunk Driver Accident

DUI accident cases have unique evidentiary opportunities — criminal prosecution records, BAC results, and prior history — that can significantly increase your recovery.

1

Call 911 and report suspected drunk driving

Tell the dispatcher you believe the other driver is intoxicated. This triggers DUI investigation procedures including BAC testing.

2

Cooperate with police but don't speculate

Describe the collision as you experienced it. Ask about the other driver's sobriety testing. Let the officer document the impairment evidence.

3

Seek immediate medical care

Get to the nearest ER for full evaluation. DUI crashes are high-force trauma, and symptoms like concussions and internal bleeding can be delayed.

4

Obtain the police report

The DUI arrest report and BAC results are the centerpiece of your civil claim. We request them immediately and build your case around them.

5

Document the at-fault driver's impairment evidence

Anything you noticed: open bottles in the car, alcohol on their breath, slurred speech, stumbling. Write it all down.

6

Contact L&F Brown

Arya Firoozmand handles Studio City DUI accident cases. We also investigate whether the driver was over-served at a local bar or restaurant, which can add a dram shop claim and more insurance coverage.

What Injury Victims Need to Know

Are punitive damages automatically available in DUI accident cases?
Not automatically — they require proof that the defendant's conduct constituted 'malice, fraud, or oppression' under California Civil Code §3294. Courts have found that driving while intoxicated, particularly with prior DUI history or an extremely high BAC, can meet this standard. We evaluate the specific facts of each DUI case to determine whether punitive damages are viable and build the evidence to support them.
Should I wait for the criminal DUI case to resolve before filing my civil claim?
No. Civil and criminal proceedings are independent. You should file your civil claim promptly — the 2-year statute of limitations runs from the date of the accident regardless of the criminal case status. A criminal conviction is powerful evidence in your civil case, but a criminal acquittal does not bar your civil claim (the standards of proof are different). We coordinate the two proceedings strategically.
Can I sue the bar that served the drunk driver?
Potentially. California's dram shop law (Business and Professions Code §25602) allows claims against commercial alcohol sellers who sell to obviously intoxicated individuals who then cause accidents. Proving the bar's liability requires evidence that the driver was visibly intoxicated when served — credit card records, surveillance footage, and witness accounts are the key evidence. This is a separate defendant with separate insurance that can significantly increase total recovery.
Where do DUI accidents most often happen in Studio City?
DUI accidents in Studio City are most common on Ventura Boulevard and the surrounding arterial roads during late-night and early-morning hours when impaired drivers are most prevalent. Bars and restaurants in commercial areas of Studio City are also common points of origin for DUI crashes. If you were hit by a drunk driver anywhere in Studio City, contact L&F Brown for a free consultation — DUI accident cases often allow for punitive damages that significantly increase the total value of your claim.
