UCLA Law Trained Attorneys in Studio City
The last thing anyone expects is to lose a family member to someone else's negligence. But when it happens in Studio City, whether from a car crash, a medical error, or a dangerous condition on someone else's property, California law provides a clear path to hold the responsible party accountable. CCP Section 377.60 allows surviving spouses, partners, children, and dependents to file a wrongful death claim. Section 377.30 lets the estate recover damages suffered before death.
Studio City's mix of heavy traffic on Ventura Boulevard and dense commercial activity creates conditions where fatal incidents happen more often than people realize. Arya works with families here to preserve critical evidence before it disappears, build the strongest possible case, and file at Van Nuys Courthouse West where he has real courtroom experience.
An Attorney Who Knows Studio City Firsthand
I previously lived in Studio City and know this neighborhood, the Ventura Boulevard dining strip, Cahuenga Pass, Coldwater Canyon, from years of daily life here. I've spent many nights on the patio at Black Liquor Market and Firefly, and watched Ventura evolve into what it is today, especially the stretch near Laurel Tavern. I earned my law degree at UCLA and now practice as a founding partner at L&F Brown.

The Road, Medical, and Legal Details That Matter Here
Canyon traffic, studio production schedules, the trauma hospitals that serve this area, and the California laws that govern your claim. This is the working knowledge behind every Studio City case we take.

Paramedics route to Providence Holy Cross (Level II Trauma, Mission Hills) or Northridge Hospital (Level II). Critical cases go to UCLA Ronald Reagan or Cedars-Sinai (both Level I, over the hill).
California law allows surviving spouses, children, and — in some cases — other dependents to file a civil wrongful death claim for the negligent, reckless, or intentional killing of a family member. This is a separate claim from any criminal prosecution.
A survival action (CCP §377.30) allows the estate to recover damages the deceased could have claimed if they had survived — including pain and suffering experienced before death. Both claims can run simultaneously and are often pursued together.

Few Will Actually Fight For It.
From the moment a claim is filed, the other side is building a case against yours. Adjusters document inconsistencies, make early offers designed to be accepted, and count on injured people to take less than they deserve. Most personal injury firms respond by loading up their docket: you get assigned to a paralegal, your calls go unanswered, and your case settles fast because the firm needs to move on.
We built L&F Brown differently.
- You talk to a founding partner. Not intake staff, not a junior associate. A UCLA Law-trained senior attorney who handles your case personally from first call to resolution.
- We limit our caseload on purpose. More cases means less attention. We take fewer so every client gets the time and resources their case actually requires.
- We don't settle until the number is right. Insurance companies know which firms fold early. We're not one of them, and they know it.

Evidence fades. Deadlines are real. The sooner you have an attorney building your case, the better your position. This is our personal commitment to every client we take on.
What Makes Your Injury Case Different
CBS Studio Center and the entertainment industry put commercial vehicles on local streets that would not normally see them: grip trucks on Radford, equipment vans blocking sight lines on Colfax, production base camps taking over residential parking. When a production vehicle is involved in a crash, the production company's commercial insurance policy is in play, and those policies are typically much larger than a personal auto policy. But they are also defended aggressively.
Crashes on Coldwater Canyon and Laurel Canyon involve mountain road conditions: limited sight lines, steep grades, no room to pull over. When the road itself contributes to the crash, Caltrans or the City of LA can be named as defendants. Government tort claims have a strict notice deadline.
Ventura Boulevard through Studio City combines restaurant and nightlife traffic with high pedestrian density and valet zones. Premises cases against entertainment venues and commercial landlords are a regular part of our caseload here.
Cases from Studio City may file at Van Nuys Courthouse or Stanley Mosk downtown, depending on the facts. We know both venues and how to choose the one that gives your case the best position.
Where the Crashes Happen
Local road patterns determine what evidence we seek, which defendants we name, and how we frame fault. These are the corridors in Studio City where crashes concentrate.
- highUS-101 through Cahuenga Pass
Steep grades, curves, and high speeds through the mountain pass. Limited shoulder space and frequent lane changes create serious crash risk, particularly for motorcyclists and in wet weather.
- highVentura Blvd (Studio City section)
Dense restaurant and entertainment corridor with heavy pedestrian activity. Rear-end collisions, dooring incidents for cyclists, and crosswalk violations are consistently reported.
- highColdwater Canyon Avenue
Steep, winding mountain road connecting Studio City to Beverly Hills. Grade issues, blind curves, and cyclists sharing the road create frequent serious collisions.
- moderateCahuenga Boulevard
Primary surface street through Cahuenga Pass. Heavy commuter use and frequent pedestrian activity near the NoHo Arts District create collision risk.
- moderateLaurel Canyon Boulevard
Popular but hazardous mountain road between Studio City and West Hollywood. Narrow lanes, steep grades, and blind corners are involved in many serious injury crashes.
The Cases That Come Out of Here
The US-101 through Cahuenga Pass is steep, fast, and unforgiving. Limited shoulders mean there is nowhere to go when someone rear-ends you at 65 mph. This corridor produces some of the most serious freeway injury cases we see from the Valley side.
Coldwater Canyon and Laurel Canyon are the mountain road crashes: head-ons from drivers crossing the center line, single-vehicle rollovers, cyclists hit by cars that did not see them around a curve. Ventura Boulevard is the pedestrian and premises corridor. Tujunga Village gets the mix of foot traffic and commercial delivery vehicles in a narrow street grid that was not designed for either.
A recent Studio City case involved a grip truck from a production that sideswiped a parked car with a passenger inside. Another was a head-on collision on Laurel Canyon where the road had no center barrier. A third was a late-night pedestrian strike outside a restaurant on Ventura where the venue's outdoor seating had reduced sidewalk width to almost nothing. Each one required us to identify defendants that a less experienced firm would have missed.
Cases We Handle
Wrongful death cases in Studio City include fatal vehicle collisions, pedestrian deaths, medical negligence, and incidents caused by unsafe property conditions. Each has its own defendants and deadlines.
Fatal Car & Truck Accidents
Negligent or impaired driving that causes a fatal crash — including DUI, distracted driving, and commercial carrier violations.
Workplace Fatalities
Third-party workplace deaths where a contractor, equipment manufacturer, or property owner's negligence caused the fatality.
Medical Malpractice Deaths
Fatal surgical errors, misdiagnosis, and hospital negligence — subject to California's medical malpractice rules.
Dangerous Product Fatalities
Defective vehicles, equipment, and consumer products that fail catastrophically and cause fatal injuries.
Premises Liability Deaths
Fatal falls, drownings, or structural failures on negligently maintained property.
Criminal Acts
Civil wrongful death claims can be filed against perpetrators of violent crimes regardless of criminal prosecution outcome.
Compensation Available in Your Case
California does not limit wrongful death damages to economic losses. The law recognizes the personal toll on your family as well. Here is what you can recover.
Funeral & Burial Expenses
The costs of funeral services, burial, or cremation that your family has paid or will pay as a result of this death.
Lost Financial Support
Projected future income and financial contributions your loved one would have made. We use economic experts to calculate this figure accurately.
Loss of Household Services
Childcare, home maintenance, daily errands. The person you lost did real work at home, and replacing it costs money your family shouldn't have to spend.
Loss of Companionship
Love, guidance, shared experiences, and emotional support that your family has permanently lost. California law places significant value on this harm.
Pre-Death Pain & Suffering
A survival action compensates suffering your loved one experienced before death. In crashes on Laurel Canyon or Coldwater Canyon, delayed emergency response can extend the period of conscious pain.
Punitive Damages
Reserved for cases involving drunk driving, hit-and-run fatalities, or intentional conduct. These damages punish the wrongdoer beyond standard compensation.
Steps for Wrongful Death Families
Wrongful death claims involve both legal process and profound personal grief. We guide families through both with discretion and determination.
Prioritize your family's wellbeing
Your family needs you right now, not paperwork. Legal action can begin later. We'll be ready when you are.
Preserve all documentation
Death certificate, police or CHP reports, hospital records, and any correspondence from insurance adjusters or the at-fault party.
Do not accept any payment or release
Insurers move fast after a death. Their goal is to close the file cheaply. Signing a release waives your right to pursue full damages.
Document financial dependence
Collect tax returns, payroll records, and evidence of how your household relied on your loved one's income and contributions.

Not only was Arya easy to communicate with, incredibly intelligent with how he planned to achieve the goals, but he was also very warm and caring. I really enjoyed working with Arya. Warm, ethical, and intelligent is a great combo!
I cannot recommend L&F Brown highly enough. From the start of my case they were professional, talked me through the process and genuinely cared about my situation and concerns. My case went far longer than any of us expected, and I was ready to just accept the first settlement, but Arya and Curt fought to get me what I was entitled to. All in all, they went above and beyond at every step and I felt supported throughout my experience with them.
My husband was involved in a car accident back in February, and now that everything has been resolved, I just wanted to say how grateful we are for this amazing team. Everyone was incredibly kind, organized, and easy to communicate with. They always kept us updated, answered every question we had, and made sure we understood what was happening every step of the way. Having someone we could trust took so much stress off our shoulders during an already difficult time.
